The DooWop Project

How former Broadway Stars keep the music of doo-wop alive

Inspired by the sounds of 1950s doo-wop from groups such as The Five Satins, The Doo Wop Project's goal is to preserve the genre of doo-wop and teach others about the genre in the modern day. The current members (Dominic Nolfi, Charl Brown, John Michael Dias, Russell Fischer, Dwayne Cooper, and Santino Paladino) all have experience with being on Broadway, singing and performing in shows such as Jersey Boys, Grease, and Motown The Musical. Some have even recorded solo albums! However, as part of The Doo Wop Project, the group (as well as past members) have recorded several albums such as Merry Christmas From The Doo Wop Project, and Old School New Generation. As of November 2024, The Doo Wop Project is on tour across the United States

I was fortunate enough to interview Dominic in the midst of their tour to discuss doo-wop in the 21st century, how The DooWop Project is keeping the music alive, and how they were inspired to recorded their rendition of a New Haven classic.
